A Rovaniemi operator with something most Lapland companies do not have: its own land. Lapland Unique Experiences runs a private activity park of more than 500 hectares just outside the city, with an ice track for rally cars, snowmobile trails through the forest, and frozen lakes for fishing and aurora nights. Everything is sold as a private booking — your group, your guide, no strangers in the group photo. It is a third-generation family business: the grandparents opened a cottage village for international visitors in 1979, and Jesse Niemelä runs it today.

What you can do
- Rally car driving on ice. An hour on their own ice track for a group of three to six, with safety training first and a professional rally driver giving feedback between runs. You can drive yourself or ride with the driver.
- Sport snowmobile safaris. One and two-hour rides on powerful sport machines, with instruction before you set off.
- Snowmobile trips into the wilderness. One, three and four-hour versions, including a longer private safari out to Lehtojärvi for up to eight people.
- Ice fishing. Three hours on a frozen lake with a local professional — rods, auger and warm clothing provided, food cooked over a campfire, and a net-fishing demonstration. Up to eight people.
- Snowmobile plus ice fishing. A four-hour combination — ride out to a remote lake, then fish it.
- Snowshoeing. Into the Arctic forest on foot, at the pace of whoever is slowest.
- Northern lights nights. Aurora hunting by snowmobile or by tracked truck, away from town lights and out on their own land.
- Tracked truck wilderness trips. For groups who would rather sit warm and be driven into the forest than steer themselves.
The host service
Alongside the activities they run a concierge service: one host who plans the trip with you beforehand and then handles it on the ground — bookings, transfers, the daily schedule, and whatever they can arrange around it. It is aimed at families and small groups who would rather deal with one person than assemble a week out of six separate operators. Ask them about accommodation through the same address; they can point you at places even though they no longer run the family cottage village themselves.
Worth knowing before you write
- This is the aurora belt. Rovaniemi sits on the Arctic Circle, so northern lights nights here are a reasonable plan rather than a lucky accident — unlike southern Finland. Weather still decides. See our Northern Lights page for what to expect month by month.
- Everything here is winter. Rally track, snowmobiles, ice fishing, snowshoes — all of it needs snow and ice. If you are travelling in summer, ask what they can run.
- You book the group, not a seat. That is the point of them, and it is why they suit families and small groups of friends. Some tours need at least four people; ask before you plan around two.
- English and Finnish. No Hebrew — write to Jesse in English and you will be fine.
- Ask about kosher and Shabbat. Several tours include food cooked over a campfire, and Friday-night and Saturday timings matter for aurora trips. We have not confirmed what they can accommodate — raise it directly rather than assuming.
- Pick-up is included within 10 km of the centre. Staying further out, at a wilderness hotel or a glass igloo resort, ask what a transfer costs before you book.
- Warm clothing is provided. Outer jackets and boots come with the activities — bring your own base and mid layers. Our gear page covers what to pack.
